Import translated content

Once the translation agency completes its work on the submission, it is time to import the translations into CCMS Web.

Note: CCMS Web translations occur within the Translation cycle, not the Localization cycle used by CCMS Desktop.

Until this phase in the workflow, CCMS Web does not add any new objects to the Content Store. An import of translations triggers the creation of a version of the object for the target language.

Because localization is an extremely flexible process, your own approach to managing what you import and when you import it really hinges on your company standard processes, the agency, and any potential issues you have to solve along the way. That means that while you cannot import individual objects, you can create a zip file that includes an assortment of translated content at the time that best suits you and best fits the arrangement you have with your translation agency. That's because imports are not tied to any particular translation or language manifest, but to their filename.

Note: While it is certainly possible to create your own zip file of contents, best practice is to simply import the zip file returned to you by your translation agency. You do not need to unzip the file to import it.

Since the translation manifest is a snapshot, nothing changes there. However, the language manifest dynamically updates and all imported objects that were dimmed now have a status of Translation:in review. The primary exception is for images that did not require translation. The other exception has to do with the import itself. If you import only a portion of the objects you submitted for translation, all objects still out for translation retain the In translation status and remain dimmed.

For the objects you imported, several changes occur.
  • The Title column uses the translated title.
  • The Filepath column changes from /content/authoring to /content/translation

To import translated content:

  1. From the in the Navigation bar, select Import localized content.
  2. In the Open dialog, from your local computer's file explorer, go to where you stored the zip file from the language service provider (LSP) and select Open.
  3. After the import completes successfully, click MadCap Software logo and then click My Kits/Imports.
    After a successful import, indicates the Import-Localization process completed properly. Most objects included in the zip file should have a Translation:in review status when they import back into the CCMS.
  4. After you are confident that the translation is good, choose one of the following actions:
    Tip: You can either move objects individually or in bulk. If you choose the latter, you must open the map to do so.
    Note: Your configuration may skip this step. If your company does not perform in-country or in-house reviews, your system administrator may skip the Translation:in review status and only allow for a Translation:done status.
    • If they require internal review, complete your typical review process, since the imported objects have a Translation:in review status
    • If the process is complete, move the objects so that they have a Translation:done status
