Content localization

You can localize any CCMS Web map.

The core of any document is its content. Translation is the process of converting content text from one language to another. The larger and more extensive idea of localization encompasses the cultural and non-textual aspects that surround the text, such as tone, style, graphics, color, units of measure, and so on, that influence the thought processes of the target audience and impact their experience of the translated text.

Note: Your configuration dictates the languages included as options in the dialog.
Note: For CCMS Desktop users, the localized revision is tied to the authoring revision. In CCMS Web, the localized revision is tied to the source object's revision.
You can distinguish objects submitted for localization from those that are not using user interface iconography.
Table 1. Localization components
Icon Item Function, description
Translation cycle Stores and manages objects in the localization workflow and can be orange if the object is available, blue if it is assigned to you, or dimmed if it is not an object in the system because you have not yet imported the translations
Translation manifest
  • Serves as a dashboard for managing a given translation project, which corresponds to a specific map
  • The master file for a localization project and created by the Localize action
Important: This dashboard is the most important item in the Translation cycle and serves as the hub for all actions related to a given map you submit to translation.
Localization kit Created from the translation manifest, contains the main map, submaps, and objects in a zip file you can send to the translation vendor
Language manifest
  • Created from the translation manifest, manages all localization of content for a single language
  • Serves as a snapshot of the map and a child to the translation manifest with a collection of objects submitted for translation to a specific target language, each with its own language code, as defined in the configuration
  • Supports output generation for the related content in that language that you imported back into CCMS Web.

The overall localization approximates the simplified one below, based on your configuration.
