Customizing framework extensions for CCMS Web

Before you create or modify a framework extension, you should understand how the MadCap Software frameworks differ from a standard Oxygen XML Web Author framework and the method of customizing it.

  1. Ensure you understand the differences between the MadCap Software frameworks and the Oxygen XML Web Author framework.

MadCap Software created three Oxygen frameworks based on the Oxygen Web Author frameworks to support Oxygen Web Author in the editing pages of IXIA CCMS Web. These three frameworks are installed with CCMS Web.

Important: Making changes directly to the MadCap Software frameworks and integrating plugins for Oxygen XML Web Author are not supported. The MadCap Software frameworks may be overwritten during updates and upgrades. You must use framework extensions to extend (i.e. customize) the frameworks.
  2. Find your current framework extensions or download the framework extension templates.

To modify your existing framework, you must locate your current framework extension. If there have been no other changes to the framework extension yet, you can also use a copy of the one that was uploaded during the installation of CCMS Web.

Note: Customers using a dedicated SaaS deployment cannot access the Oxygen Web Author Component directly. Contact IXIA CCMS Customer Support about uploading customized frameworks.

Alternatively, you can create a new framework extension. MadCap Software provides customers with a template file that they can download, which contains a template framework extension for each of three frameworks.

  3. Customize the framework extensions.

Customize the framework extension in an XML editor, such as Oxygen.

  4. Upload the customized framework extensions.
You upload the framework extension using the the administration page of the Oxygen Web Author Component.
Note: In a dedicated SaaS deployment, you cannot access the Oxygen Web Author Component directly. Contact IXIA CCMS Customer Support about uploading customized frameworks.
