Add a new topic to a map in Structure view

You can create new topics for maps in Structure view if you need to add more content.

Before you begin

You must have the map checked out in Map Editor and be in Structure view. The toggle must also be set to Edit.

You can add a new topic to any map that you can edit. New maps start empty, and you must add new topics to them.

To add a new topic to a map:

Find an element in the map that you want to add the new topic after.
In the Map Edit column, click for that object, and select New Topic.
Select one of the following:
- To create a new topic at the same level, select Same Level. Objects at this level are for organizing things that have parallel structure, like separate chapters in a book, or topics talking about related subjects.
- To create a new topic one level below, select Sub Level. Objects at this level are for adding information that is under a higher-level subject, such as adding related articles under a high-level introduction topic in a chapter.
  Note: If one option is dimmed, then no objects or elements can be added at that level.
The New Topic dialog appears.
Enter a title for your topic.
Click Next.

Choose a template from the following:

Troubleshooting	Use this to provide step-by-step instructions for solutions to common problems

Click Create.
The New Element dialog appears.
From the Element dropdown list, select the element that you want to add.
For a new topic, the most commonly used elements would be <topicref> or <chapter>.
Note: The Element dropdown list shows only elements that you can insert at the current location.
Click Insert.
