Overview of the upgrade path to IXIA CCMS 7.2

The following describes what needs to be updated when upgrading to IXIA CCMS 7.2 from IXIA CCMS 7.1.

For brevity, this guide includes only the upgrade path from 7.1 to 7.2. If you are upgrading from an earlier version, first follow the upgrade paths as outlined in previous upgrade guides to reach 7.1 and then proceed to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2following the instructions in this guide.

Note: The order presented in Upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS for upgrading IXIA CCMS components is the order recommended by MadCap Software. However, after you upgrade TEXTML Server, CCMS Web, and the Content Store, you can upgrade the remaining components in whatever order best suits your deployment. For instance, you might have requirements that make upgrading IXIA CCMS Desktop before CCMS Output Generator preferable.

Upgrading TEXTML Server

If you are not currently using IXIA TEXTML Server to 4.4.1.5299 or later, you must upgrade to that version. Upgrading does not require any conversion or re-indexing.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Web

You need to upgrade to CCMS Web 7.2. If you are upgrading from 7.1, the Web Installer for CCMS Web 7.2 does not install any mandatory configuration changes during the installation process. If you are upgrading from an earlier version than 7.1, those installers install some mandatory configuration changes, as documented in the upgrade guides for those versions.

Keep in mind that:

  • Starting in CCMS Web 6.0, a framework is no longer mandatory for your DTDs
  • Your existing frameworks and plugins are copied into backup folder in the installation folder prior to the upgrade
  • You must manually reinstall your custom frameworks and plugins

Upgrading the Content Store

The Web Installer automatically handles all of the mandatory updates to the Content Store.

The only required changes are the following, if you have not already completed them during previous upgrades:

  • Add users to the Advanced Users group in users.xml to give them access to the advanced user functions (i.e. make them writers).
  • Update the ixia.cms.version value for the system
Note: There are optional configuration changes you should review and consider implementing, particularly changes to access rights and workflows in IXIA CCMS Web because of new features.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Desktop

You need to upgrade to CCMS Desktop 7.2. You must update the eclipse.ini file to avoid timeout errors when generating output.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Output Generator

MadCap recommends upgrading to CCMS Output Generator 7.2.This version of CCMS Output Generator does not introduce any significant changes over 7.1.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Scheduler

There are no mandatory configuration changes for CCMS Scheduler, but CCMS Scheduler templates might need to be manually updated to avoid issues with email notifications.
