Why do I get an error when trying import an SVG with a flowRoot element?

The flowRoot element is not defined in the SVG DTDs and needs to be converted to text.

Symptom

When trying to import an SVG that contains a flowRoot element, the Error Log displays a The current document is unable to create an element of the requested type (namespace: http://www.w3.org/2000/svg, name: flowRoot). error message.

Problem

There is no definition for <flowRoot> in the SVG 1.0 or 1.1 DTDs, which is what the IXIASOFT CCMS validates against.

Solution

Edit the SVG in Inkscape and convert the flowRoot to text with the Text menu option.
