Using published content in CCMS Web

While you can view published content in CCMS Web, you cannot work with it.

CCMS Web does not include the Publish feature. Instead of publishing content, MadCap Software recommends using Snapshots instead.

Your interaction with published content in CCMS Web is limited to viewing it only. To view published content in CCMS Web, at least one of your roles must have Published:done as an active status. If this is the case, you can see the Published cycle in the Status section of Advanced Search.

As published content is view-only, you cannot edit it. You cannot add published topics to maps in Authoring, and you cannot add published images to topics in Authoring.

You might have maps that reference a combination of content in Authoring and Published. For example, you publish a map in CCMS Desktop. You then branch the map to branch 2.0 and you branch a few of the topics to 2.0 as well. You now have a copy of the 2.0 map in Authoring that references some objects in Published and some in Authoring.

You can search for both the published and the branched map in CCMS Web. You can open both maps and view them. You can also

  • generate outputs from them
  • view their dependencies
  • view their Revision History
  • add them to Worklists
  • check their spelling (although you cannot make any corrections)

You cannot

  • generate Collaborative Reviews or Approvals for them
  • create Snapshots from them
  • localize them

If you need to localize published content in CCMS Web, create a process for branching all published content to make Authoring objects available to CCMS Web.

Publishing remains incompatible with DRM systems.
