Fork a topic

Topics can be in more than one branch. If you need to edit a topic that is in more than one branch, you must fork the topic.

About this task

You only need to pick a branch and fork it in the following scenarios:

  • You are editing a branch outside of Map Editor
  • The branch is not assigned to you

To fork and edit a topic:

Procedure

  1. Click Fork or Fork icon.

    One of the following appears:

    • If you can edit the topic in only one of the branches, a message appears saying which Branch the topic will automatically fork in.

      Click Fork & Edit to fork and check out the topic.

    • If you could edit the topic in one of several branches, the Fork & Edit dialog appears so you can pick a branch.

      Follow the steps below.

  2. Select the branch you want to edit in.
    The branches are sorted by branch type.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Choose one of the following actions:
    • To pick a topic's context map, click the map's radio button.
    • To edit the topic without a context map, click No context map.
  5. Click Fork & Edit.

Results

A new instance of the topic is created in the branch you selected. Any changes you make will appear in that topic for only that Branch.
