Check out multiple objects

When you are ready to begin your edits of multiple objects, you must check out the images, topics, or maps so that the objects are assigned to you and you can make your updates.

There are several conditions to note when using the bulk check out action:

  • You cannot check out an object assigned to another user

  • Your access rights, branch type, and any related system configurations influence whether you can check out the selected objects

  • You have Content Level Security (CLS) read-write access to that branch

  • You cannot bulk check out a topic that is in multiple branches for shared objects prior to check out

Note: The bulk action banner notifies you of the state of each object you selected when you expand the banner.

To check out multiple objects:

  1. Select the objects with an Authoring:work or equivalent status that you want to check out.
You can use Search or filter objects on the My Assignments page to help you during object selection.
  2. On the bulk action ribbon, select Check out from the Action dropdown list.
  3. Expand the bulk action ribbon to review the state of each object and related manual actions, and then choose one of the following actions:
Tip: You can use the bulk action basket as a temporary work space, rather than returning to one of the other views, then clear it after you have completed all tasks related to that work status. You can manually move any objects from an Authoring:done status to a Authoring:work status and then include them in the bulk check out.
  4. Click Continue.
The eligible objects are checked out, indicated with Check in icon and your username in the Checked Out By column.
  5. Optional: After the checkout is complete, do one of the following:
    • Click New Action to continue to the next bulk action.
    • Click Clear to clear the bulk action basket and return to work on an object.
The items that meet the stated conditions are checked out to you.
