Contents of localization kits

The localization kit contains all the content that needs to be sent to the translation team for localization.

The contents of the localization kit depends on the localization method.

Sequential localization method

In the sequential localization method, the localization kit can contain the following depending on your configuration:

  • A <language> folder (for example, ja-jp) that contains the map and its topics in DITA format. Depending on the configuration, this folder may include the .image containers for the images in the map for context. If auto-translation is enabled and a previously-translated copy exists, the files will contain the automatically-translated text.
  • A file called originals.zip is saved in the <language> folder. It contains the latest version of the document in the authoring cycle at the time the localization kit is created. The document is in a format configured by your System administrator (for example, PDF, HTML, etc.). If auto-translation is enabled, the document will contain the automatically-translated text.
  • A file called lasttranslation.zip. This file is saved in the <language> folder and contains the previous translation of the document in a format configured by your System administrator (for example, PDF, HTML, etc.).

Concurrent localization method

In the concurrent localization method, the localization kit can contain the following depending on your configuration:

  • A ZIP file with the content in XLIFF format:
    • The map and its topics in XLIFF format. Each XLIFF translation unit contains the original source text. It will also contain the automatically translated text (or a copy of the source text if auto-translation was not possible). Depending on the configuration, this folder may include the .image containers for the images in the map for context.
    • A file called originals.zip, which contains the latest version of the document at the time the localization kit is created. The document is in a format configured by your System administrator (for example, PDF, HTML, etc.). If auto-translation is enabled, this document includes the auto-translated text.
    • A file called lasttranslation.zip, which contains the previous translation of the document in a format configured by your System administrator (for example, PDF, HTML, etc.).
  • A ZIP file with the content in DITA format:
    • A <language> folder (for example, ja-jp) that contains the map and its topics in DITA format. Depending on the configuration, this folder may include the .image containers for the images in the map for context. If auto-translation is enabled and a previously-translated copy exists, the files will contain the automatically-translated text.
    • A file called originals_<language>.zip, which contains the latest version of the document in the authoring cycle at the time the localization kit is created. The document is in a format configured by your System administrator (for example, PDF, HTML, etc.). If auto-translation is enabled, this document includes the auto-translated text.
    • A file called lasttranslation_<language>.zip, which contains the previous translation of the document in a format configured by your System administrator (for example, PDF, HTML, etc.).
