Overview of the upgrade path to IXIA CCMS 7.0

The following describes what needs to be updated when upgrading to IXIA CCMS 7.0 from IXIA CCMS 6.8.

For brevity, this guide includes only the upgrade path from 6.8 to 7.0. If you are upgrading from an earlier version, first follow the upgrade path as outlined in Upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS (found in the IXIA CCMS 6.8 documentation) and then proceed to upgrade from 6.8 to 7.0 following the instructions in this guide.

Note: The order presented in Upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS for upgrading IXIA CCMS components is the order recommended by MadCap Software. However, after you upgrade TEXTML Server, CCMS Web, and the Content Store, you can upgrade the remaining components in whatever order best suits your deployment. For instance, you might have requirements that make upgrading IXIA CCMS Desktop before CCMS Output Generator preferable.

Upgrading TEXTML Server

You must upgrade IXIA TEXTML Server to 4.4.1.5299 or later. Upgrading does not require any conversion or re-indexing.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Web

You need to upgrade to CCMS Web 7.0. The Web Installer for CCMS Web 7.0 installs important mandatory configuration changes.

New parameters have been added to implement generating output in CCMS Web, and new parameters have been added that implements the DRM cache system.

Also, there are some changes to keep in mind:

  • Starting in CCMS Web 6.0, a framework is no longer mandatory for your DTDs
  • Your existing frameworks and plugins are copied into backup folder in the installation folder prior to the upgrade
  • You must manually reinstall your custom frameworks and plugins

Upgrading the Content Store

The Web Installer automatically handles all of the mandatory updates to the Content Store.

The only required changes are the following:

  • Add users to the Advanced Users group in users.xml to give them access to the advanced user functions (i.e. make them writers).
  • Update the ixia.cms.version value for the system
Note: There are optional configuration changes you should review and consider implementing, particularly changes to access rights and workflows in IXIA CCMS Web because of new features.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Desktop

You need to upgrade to CCMS Desktop 7.0. You must update the eclipse.ini file to avoid timeout errors when generating output.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Output Generator

You must upgrade to CCMS Output Generator 7.0.

Version Changes
CCMS Output Generator 6.6 This version changed the version of Java® required. You must upgrade your deployment to point to a Java 11 JDK for CCMS Output Generator 6.6 and later.
CCMS Output Generator 6.2

There were also the following changes in IXIA CCMS Output Generator 6.2:

  • Dynamic loading of output types and preprocessors configuration (no restart required)
  • A new plugin for MathML in FOP
  • Native support for SVG in FOP
CCMS Output Generator 6.1

This version introduced a new method for creating outputs. You must upgrade your conductor files to use this new method if you want to be able to do the following:

  • To generate output in CCMS Web
  • To create Approvals and Collaborative Reviews in CCMS Web
  • To use DITA-OT 3.x

If you still want to use older versions of DITA-OT, you can. The default DITA-OT version of CCMS Output Generator 7.0 is 2.5.4, and CCMS Output Generator works with all versions of DITA-OT though some versions may require a few additional changes.

If you are upgrading from CCMS 6.1 and you have SSL enabled on IXIA TEXTML Server, there is a new SSL java property in the wrapper.conf file you must configure.

Upgrading IXIA CCMS Scheduler

There are no mandatory configuration changes for CCMS Scheduler, but CCMS Scheduler templates do need to be manually updated to avoid issues with email notifications.
