Add a topic or submap

In Map Editor, you can search for and add exiting topics to the map you are editing. You can also add existing maps as submaps.

Topics are added as a topicref, and submaps are added as a mapref.

To add a topicref or mapref:

1. Find the location where you want to add the new topic.
2. Add the new topic by doing one of the following:

   Method	Steps
   Mini toolbar	Hover over the title of an existing topic. The mini toolbar appears. Click .
   Right-click	Select the location in the map where you want to add the new topic. Right-click and select Insert > Insert Topic Reference.
   Toolbar	Select the location in the map where you want to add the new topic. On the toolbar, click .

3. In the Insert a DITA Reference dialog, search for the topic or map that you want.

   You can click on the titles of topics and maps to see a preview of them.

4. To select and insert the topic or map, do one of the following:
   • While previewing the topic, click Insert.
   • To add the topic or map without previewing it, click the radio button for it and then click Insert.

A new topicref or mapref is added for the topic or map.
