Replace an installed docbase without stopping IXIASOFT TEXTML Server

When you have multiple docbases installed on IXIASOFT TEXTML Server, you can restore one without affecting the users using the others.

When multiple docbases are installed in IXIASOFT TEXTML Server, you may not want to shut it down to replace a single docbase thereby affecting a large portion of users unnecessarily.

Remember: TEXTML Server must be granted permissions to the high-level directory (for example, the docbases directory) and its subdirectories.

To replace a docbase:

  1. Open the TEXTML Administration perspective by clicking the TEXTML Administration shortcut on the tool bar. If the shortcut is not displayed, follow these steps:
    1. Select Window > Perspective > Open Perspective > Other
    2. Click TEXTML Administration.
    3. Click Open.
  2. In the TEXTML Administration view, double-click the server. If your server is not displayed in the view, you must add it to the view.
  3. When the Connect as dialog opens, type your username and password and click OK.
  4. Double-click the name of your Content Store to open a connection to it.
  5. Right-click the docbase and click Uninstall.
  6. Delete all the files related to the docbase being replaced.
    For example, if the existing docbase was in C:\docbases\TEXTML4.4\Prod (Windows) or /docbases/TEXTML4.4/Prod (Linux), then you would delete all the files in the Prod folder.
  7. Copy all the docbase files (data files and log facility) from the backup and paste them into the docbase folder.
    Note: Use copy and paste instead of drag and drop to move the files to ensure data integrity.
    Important: If the backup was generated as a snapshot, ensure the files are writable.
  8. In the TEXTML Administration view, right-click the server and click Install Document Base.

  9. In the Name box, type the name of the Content Store.
    Note: While the name of the Content Store can be different from the name of the Content Store folder, IXIASOFT highly recommends that you use the same name.
  10. In the Data box, type the path to the Content Store folder.
    Important: If you opened the TextmlServer Console Java or IXIASOFT TEXTML Server perspective from a different machine than where TEXTML Server and the Content Store are installed, you must enter the full path to the Content Store on the machine where it is installed (and the Browse button is disabled).
  11. Optional: Do one of the following:
    • To have logger records saved in the Content Store directory, select Use same directory for logs.
    • To have logger records written to a different directory, specify a folder in the Logs box.
    Note: Logger records (not to be confused with transaction logs) are duplicates of the master record for Content Store transactions. TEXTML Server creates logger records when performing write operations on the Content Store. Users who expect frequent intense write activity on a Content Store may choose to locate the logger records in a separate directory residing on a different physical disk to improve performance.
  12. Under Installation Type, click Existing document base to install a populated Content Store (for example, a Content Store that you previously migrated or are restoring from a backup).
  13. Click OK.
  14. Right-click the Content Store.
  15. Click Unlock all documents.
