Why is my XML file not opening in the default editor?

Eclipse has been configured to open unlocked XML files in a read-only XML editor.

Symptom

When a topic is double-clicked is a view, it opens using another editor such as the Simple XML Editor rather than the XML editor that was installed as the intended default editor.

Problem

The option Open unlocked XML files in a read-only XML editor is enabled in the Eclipse Preferences window.

Solution

To open XML files in the default editor:

  1. In the DITA CMS Eclipse Client, click Window > Preferences
  2. In the left pane, click DITA CMS > General Behavior
  3. Clear the Open unlocked document in Read-only Editor checkbox.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click OK.
