Delete an object

If you need to delete an object, such as a map or a topic, you can use the Delete feature to do so.

Deletion is a comprehensive action. When you delete an object, it moves to the Deleted cycle and has a Deleted:deleted status. Since the Deleted cycle is not exposed, any objects in the Deleted cycle are neither accessible for searches or Advanced search, nor do they appear anywhere else.
Note: For DRM users, you cannot delete an object from only some branches. Your object deletion applies to all branches.

If you choose to delete an object, be aware of the conditions related to your deletion.

  • The object must be in the Authoring cycle.
  • The object must be checked in. It cannot be locked by anyone, including the current user.
  • The object cannot have any parent dependencies.
Note: For DRM users, it can have a branch container dependency. However, you can delete an object if it is shared by only editable branches, so you cannot delete an object shared by a closed or delivery branch.
  • You can only delete a single object at a time. There is no bulk action for deletions.
  • You can only delete the object if you have the proper CLS write access to all branches that contain the object.

You can still use CCMS Desktop to restore deleted objects to an Authoring:work status. For more details, refer to CCMS Desktop documentation.
