Open an object in the Translation cycle

You can open objects that are in the Translation cycle, but you must first select a language manifest or you will not find the related objects for that language.

About this task

For translated content, the language manifest is the context, not the context map.

Important: Once you submit content for translation, you cannot work directly with those objects. Rather, use only the translation and language manifests as the hub for your activity and select the translation manifest as context before you edit an object. Any other search for content results in a No context error notification.

To open an object in the Translation cycle:

Procedure

  1. Click , select the related language or languages from the Languages section, and then from the Object Types section, expand Translation Manifests.
  2. From the resulting options, click Language-Manifest and then click Search to find it.
  3. Optional: If you need to add a product, library, or branch to further constrain your search, use the dropdown menus in the Context section to do so.
  4. If it is a multi-language manifest, then in the Page field, click the dropdown list to select a single language from the available languages.
  5. Select and open an object from the resulting list in the grid.
Note: To open an object, it must be have a Translation:in review or Translation:done status.

Results

The object that opens is the revision of the object used in the translation manifest and is a read-only snapshot, not active content.

If you are using a context map linked to the Translation Manifest snapshot, you receive a warning notification that includes the object's version and that the document is read-only. If you are using the language manifest, it acts as a context map for the identified languages and their related maps.

Note: The best method of identifying the context map is to view the text around the breadcrumb path.
  • An object in the Authoring cycle is still available for edits, so the context map you link to it is listed, is active, and you can make edits to the object once you open it
  • A translation manifest object in the Translation cycle is always a snapshot, so the context map it lists may or may not be the current active context map, so you cannot make edits to the object
  • An imported language manifest object in the Translation cycle is not a snapshot, but acts just like an object in the Authoring cycle when you open the imported parent map, so you can make edits to the object once you open it
