Drag documents into a map

You can add content to a map by dragging in topics and maps from other views.

Before you begin

The map must be locked.

About this task

Topics and other maps may be added to maps using a drag and drop technique. This lets you control where you want the document to appear in the final document deliverable. You can drag in one or several documents at the same time.

You can add a topic to more than one map.

Procedure

  1. Open the map in the DITA Map view.
  2. In the Cycles panel of the Search view, select the Authoring or Published checkbox. (The actual checkbox value depends on your workflow).
  3. In the Document Type panel of the Search view, select the appropriate checkbox(s).
    • Topics
    • Maps
  4. Click the Search button.
Documents matching the selected type(s) are displayed in the Search Results view.
  5. Drag and drop the required document(s) into the map.
    • If the cursor is a highlight, the document(s) will be added as a child of the selected file (as shown in the illustration below).
    • If the cursor is a solid line, then the document(s) drop into the map at the level of the line's end.
      • In the second example of the figure, the document(s) will be moved to the same level as the topic "GUI modifications".
      • In the third example, the topic(s) will be moved to the level of "View: My Todo list".

The document(s) appear in the map at the place you dropped them.
