Rename a topic

The Rename procedure changes the title of a topic.

Before you begin

The file must not be locked by another user.

About this task

The names that identify topics when they appear in the DITA Map view or in the Search Results view are determined by their <title> element. You can rename a topic by editing its title.

This function is available from all views.

Procedure

  1. Right-click the topic and select Edit from the menu.
    The file is locked and opens in your default XML editor.
  2. Edit the <title> element as required.
    For example, you could change the following line:
    <title>Preface</title>
    to
    <title>Introduction</title>
  3. Save your work and release the file.
  4. Optional: Refresh the view to see the update.
