Maps

Maps provide a structured hierarchy to the objects and content within it.

The map is a file that contains references to all the objects, usually topics, that are included in the document. Think of it as the table of contents or an outline for a document.

Maps serve several purposes and can act as a parent or child to another map, either as a root map or a submap, respectively. The most frequent submaps within a root map are:

  • A glossary map
  • An index map

You can open topics from the map or make edits, such as topic additions or deletions, as well as moving topics through promotion or demotion on the map. You can expand a section if you added children topics underneath it.

You can open a map in Map Editor. See Map Editor and Open an object in a new tab.
