Edit an existing key definition

After you define a key, you can edit it at any time.

The most frequent reason to edit a key is that the term requires an update. For example, you created and defined a key for a new product, but during a company acquisition, the name of the product or its brand changed.

CAUTION: Any change you make to a keyname and its key type, once the definition is in use, does not necessarily flow to all related content. Approach this edit process with a clear understanding of the implications.
Note: The location for the key could be in the current map or a related map.

To edit an existing key definition:

  1. In Structure view for Map Editor, search for the key name and click it or click .
The Edit Key Definition dialog opens.
  2. Choose the field you need to edit.
    1. If you need to update only the key name, click in the Keyname field and make your edit.
    2. If you need to change the keyword value type, select the radio button next to the new reference type. See Create a key definition.
  3. After careful review of your edit, click Save.
    The key definition is edited.
