Large resource file management

Uploading large files as resources, such as videos or animations, can impact memory requirements and the performance of IXIA CCMS.

The rough dividing line between large and small files is at the 2MB file size.

Note: Avoid uploading large files as resources where possible. Even for smaller files, repeated revisions and localization can cause significant file duplication and slow system response times.

Memory

Whenever a new revision is created for an object, a new copy of the file is created to preserve the content of each revision.

For objects like maps and topics, file sizes are small, so compress easily. However, some larger file formats cannot be compressed. Multiple revisions of uncompressed files can quickly use a significant amount of memory.

Performance

If a topic references a video or image file, the topic downloads it in the browser when you load the topic in IXIA CCMS Web. If you regularly embed large videos and images in topics, you may find that you have sluggish interactions with your topics.

Note: Instead of uploading videos, the best solution is to store them elsewhere and link to them from topics. Users can embed an external reference to a video using an object element so that the video appears in the HTML output.
