Modifying the Index Definition document
The Index Definition document allows you to specify which values are indexed by IXIASOFT CCMS.
CAUTION: Making changes to the Index
Definition document requires advanced technical skills and an understanding of the
consequences of each change.
IXIASOFT
strongly recommends that you consult with IXIASOFT Customer Support before making significant changes.
In the Index Definition document (indexdefinition.xml), you can create:
- Index definitions, which specify the criteria used to create search indexes.
- Reference lists, which list words or character strings to be included or omitted from indexing.
- Units, which group together multiple XML elements. A unit can be searched as if it were a single element.
- Summaries, which group together multiple elements so that they can be retrieved in a single operation.

Rebuilding indexes
Indexes are updated automatically, as the content changes. You do not need to rebuild them except in
the following cases:
- The Textml docbase validation tool finds that they are corrupted
- When instructed by IXIASOFT
Rebuilding all of the indexes can require a lot of resources, which may render the system unresponsive. Also, while the indexes are being rebuilt, the CCMS must not be used. Otherwise, it will operate with incomplete information from the docbase, which might corrupt the content.
