This section provides the procedure for simplifying a perspective.
Note: This applies only to On-Premise deployments.
This procedure assumes that you have the IDs for the elements that you want to
hide and that you have added the perspective ID to the eclipse.xml file. See Obtain the list of IDs in a trace log for a perspective for the procedure.
You can also use the eclipseui_template.xml file to get the IDs
for most perspective. See Working with the eclipseui_template.xml file for more information.
To simplify a perspective:
-
Open the TEXTML Administration perspective by clicking the
TEXTML Administration shortcut on the
tool bar. If the shortcut is not displayed, follow these steps:
-
Select
-
Click TEXTML
Administration.
-
Click Open.
-
In the TEXTML
Administration view, double-click the server. If your server is
not displayed in the view, you must add it to the view.
-
When the Connect as dialog
opens, type your username and password and click OK.
-
Double-click the name of your Content Store to open a connection to it.
-
Expand the Content Store's Repository node and browse to
/system/conf to locate the
eclipseui.xml file.
-
Right-click eclipseui.xml and select Check
Out.
-
Open the file in an XML editor.
-
Look for the perspective that you want to simplify. If it is
not there, add it.
Note: You can also use wildcards when specifying perspective names to specify
multiple perspectives in a single line. For example,
"com.ixiasoft.dita.eclipse.gui.perspective.*" will match all the IXIASOFT CCMS perspectives.
-
Inside the perspective, look for the section that you want to simplify.
-
Add the items that you want to hide, close, or minimize in a
<removeditem>
or <item>
element, as
appropriate.
Most interface items are already defined but commented out for the startup and
DITA perspectives. You can simply uncomment the items as appropriate.
For the
list of valid elements and attributes per section, see Understanding the eclipseui.xml file.
To determine the ID of the element
items to configure, see Getting IDs from the trace log.
-
Save, close, and Check In the eclipseui.xml
file.
-
Inform users of the changes and request that they close and
reopen their CCMS Desktop to apply the
changes.
