Prepare a pre-localization kit

You can send a preliminary version of your text to the translation team using a pre-localization kit.

Note: Pre-localization kits are not available for the sequential localization method or if using IXIASOFT Dynamic Release Management. DRM can only use the sequential localization method.

You can use a pre-localization kit to take a snapshot of the content that’s under development. Then you can send the snapshot to the translation team so that they can prepare their translation memory. Pre-localization kits can contain as many output languages as you require.

Pre-localization kits may be generated at any point in the document development cycle, and from any view.

When a pre-localization kit is prepared, the CMS attempts to auto-translate the map and its topics, based on any previous translations. The result is collected into one file per language you select.

The localization process requires a substantial amount of system resources. If you are localizing several maps in many different languages, you may notice an impact on your computer's performance.

The pre-localization kit is output in XLIFF format and DITA format. Each XLIFF translation unit contains the original source text. It also contains the automatically translated text, or a copy of the source text if auto-translation was not possible.

Right-click the map and select Localization > Prepare Pre-Localization Kit from the menu.
The Select Languages dialog appears.
In the Select Languages dialog, select the required language(s).
Click Create.
The Generate Kit dialog appears as the localization kit is generated and zipped.
After the localization kit is prepared you have the following options:
- If Auto save is enabled, the Generate Kit dialog displays the location where the file was saved. Click OK.
- If Auto save is not enabled, the Save As dialog appears. Confirm or change the proposed filename and location, then click Save.
Auto save is set when you configure your import and export directories.
