Dependencies view

Any kind of relationship one object has to another object is called a dependency: all dependencies are reciprocal relationships. You can open the Dependencies view (Dependencies icon) to examine all the relationships between the object you selected and all other related objects.

The most common dependency is the dependency shared between a parent map and all the topics and submaps that are its children. The map references all these objects, and all these objects are referenced by the map.

For example, a cross reference from one topic to another appears as a dependency for both objects. The first topic references the second topic, and the second topic is referenced by the first.

Dependencies track information like the following:

  • Where topics are reused, where referenced by a map
  • If a topic links to another, where one topic references another topic
  • If topics are cloned or have other instances, as instances / clones of a topic
  • If a map has submaps (references a map) or is a submap, where referenced by a map
  • If a map has been put into a Collaborative Review or Approval workflow

Actions for objects in Dependencies view

While in the Dependencies view, you can take actions on any of the listed dependencies. For example, you could generate the output of a map or open a topic to edit.

The actions available depend on the type of object and its current status. You can perform all the same actions that are available on other pages like the My Assignments page.

Localized objects in Dependencies view

To better understand the Unified Localization feature in CCMS Web, see Unified localization. Because of limited compatibility related to the localization feature between CCMS Desktop and CCMS Web, there must be a sharp division between the two when viewing object dependencies.

Dependencies view for localized content has two sections:

  1. The Localized from section is the source content.
    • When you use the Unified Localization feature in CCMS Web to generate objects, you can see objects that you either localized using CCMS Web or migrated over as read-only objects from CCMS Desktop. You cannot see objects that used CCMS Desktop for localization from the dependencies view of the source language.
    • When you use CCMS Desktop to view object dependencies, the list only contains a list of objects localized using CCMS Desktop.
  2. The Localized to section is the target content returned from your translation agency.
    1. When you use the Unified Localization feature in CCMS Web to import localized objects, you can see objects your translation agency returned to you after localization.
    2. When you use CCMS Desktop to view object dependencies, the list only contains a list of objects localized using CCMS Desktop. You cannot see objects that used CCMS Web for localization.
