Insert symbols

Use this procedure to insert symbols into your text.

The Special Inserts view lets you insert symbols directly into the XML document, without having to type in escape characters or look up hexadecimal codes.
  1. Open the topic in your XMetaL editor.
  2. Place the cursor where you want to insert a symbol.
  3. Open the Special Inserts view. You can either:
    • Press CTRL+4.
    • On the View toolbar, click the Symbol button (Insert Symbol icon).
    • From the menu bar, select XML Document > Insert > Symbol...
    The Special Inserts view opens, with the Symbol option enabled.
  4. Double-click the required symbol.
The symbol is inserted into the editor at the cursor's location.
